Coming Out & Gender Transition

Coming Out

Coming out, both to yourself and to others, can be a scary process.  Below are some resources to help you, and your friends and family, with the coming out process.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS)

Counselors at CPS can talk with you about sexuality issues and can help you explore any concerns you might have related to your sexual orientation. Explore the UHS website for more information.

Get involved with the LGBTQ community at Cal!

Gender Equity Resource Center's LGBT Programs and Services puts on programs for and about the LGBTQ community on campus.

The Queer Alliance and Resource Center is a student-run resource center that supports other LGBTQ groups on campus.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Resource Guide to Coming Out

HRC's Resource Guide to Coming Out is another excellent resource for coming out.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)

PFLAG provides support and resources to the parents, families, and friends of LGBT people. This is a great resource to share with your friends and family member who would benefit from being able to talk to other friends and family of LGBT persons.

Gender Transition

GenEq's Guide to Transitioning at Cal

A good resource to get an overview of the resources available at Cal to support students going through the process of gender transition.

The Restroom List

A list of the location of various unisex and single stall restrooms on campus.

Tang Services for Transgender Students

Hosts the University Health Services page that outlines services relevant to transgender students.

General Support

Don't know where to start? Billy Curtis, the Director of the Gender Equity Resource Center, can help Cal students wishing to transition their gender navigate the UC Berkeley system and connect them with the resources they need. Contact Billy at billyc@berkeley.edu.
